Wow, when they say timing is everything they mean it. Two weekend’s prior to our challenge we were dealing with snow. The weekend before we had rain and low temperatures. The weekend after we were once again dealing with snow. However, on January 23rd the temperature was in the upper 50s and the sky was overcast but there was no rain or snow in sight!!!
Considering we picked this day back in October, we were pretty ecstatic. Although, I must say Billy and I were just a little apprehensive when 11 o’clock rolled around and the only ones in the parking lot were our own KMA members. But as the hour grew closer to noon the bikes just started rolling. By the time we left Steel Horse’s parking lot we had roughly 60 bikes and 75 individuals. Not bad for a ride in the middle of January.
We all got to meet some new friends, got to see some old friends and enjoyed a great little ride. There was a quick stop over at one of the KMA’s newest business members -Riders Bargain Outlet (www.ridersoutlets.com) where everyone got a chance to check out their great deals in leather accessories and then off we went to HOOTERS for the after ride party.
The ride was a huge success. Our poker hand winner walked away with $315 and the 50/50 winner received $101. But most importantly it was a safe ride and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Take care,

On December 12th members of Bluegrass District met at the Steel Horse Saloon on Dixie Hwy (Louisville) to pay homage to KMA member Tony Hagan's father - Phillip Hagan and to raise money for the KY ALS Chapter. Even though the day started with temperatures in the 20s we still had 20 bikers brave the elements for a great cause.
In spite of the bitter temperatures there was plenty of warmth to be had amongst good friends. Those who step up to the challenge were treated to a nice ride, awesome chili and plenty of door prizes. District 18's own Re Elmore won a beautiful leather jacket. And at the end of the day we were able to raise $400, not bad at all.
I would like to personally thank my Sergeant at Arms, Billy Roby, for rounding up the crew. And a special thanks goes out to ride organizer Tony and his wife for putting the ride together and collecting all the great prizes. We look for next year's ride to be bigger and better.
For those of you who missed out on the frigid outing we still have the Arctic Challenge coming up January 23rd. We hope to see you then!
Take care,

Despite a chilly start and over-cast start the KMA District 18 joined the Blue Knights and about 6000 other motorcyclist to participate in the 27th Annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots Run on Sunday November 29th.
Representing our District was Sergeant at Arms Billy Roby with his wife Janet Boehnlein, Bob and Re Elmore, Tony and Billie Hagan, Charlie and Jennifer Kennedy, Mike Sallee and Todd and Teresa Winters.
Despite the weather and down economy organizers estimate there were approximately three times the number of riders as there were last year. The amount of toys collected filled a tractor trailer.
I would like to offer a special thank you to my good friend and Blue Knights KY VII member, William Wiley, for his hospitality and invitation to their Annual Law Enforcement Breakfast prior to the ride.
We look forward to working with his Chapter on rides and events in 2010. As always keep an eye out for flyers and information on up and coming runs and events.
Take care,
