It's that time of year when we all take a look at where we are, where we've been, and where we'd like to be. 2008 has seen many changes for the Hogtown chapter this year. Our long time director of many years unexpectedly had to resign and our vice director also had to leave at the same time. At that time an emergency meeting was held to elect new officers.
Even though we've had many challenges, we also have many opportunities. One example was when I asked our active members for their input on what they would like to do. One of the answers everyone had was a poker run and party. We scheduled our first in a long time on Oct 4th. We nicknamed it "Hogstock 08". The weather was absolutely unbeatable that day. The poker run was an awesome ride through many miles of uncongested country roads with fall colors being at their peak, and we ended in a large private lot where we had slow cooked a whole pig over a pit the night before and, of course, lots of lout music. We were prepared for a whole lot more bikers than got to make it that day. The result was that we had so much support from the community that everyone came out ahead, and well fed, including our chapter.
2009 will definitely be a year for opportunity and change. I think we’ve been looking forward to that for a long time. I know that in many ways change is good but, we have to realize that so many politicians got elected on promises of change. I just don’t want us to take for granted the many changes that the KMA/KBA has already made in motorcycle rights and awareness. I think it’s more important than ever that we pay close attention to what’s going on around us, from the local to national level, so that we don’t lose ground on the things we’ve already accomplished.
That’s why this year our chapter will be more focused than ever on our members. I realize more than ever that we need the support of our members in our chapter to keep us up to date with the goings on of our local towns and counties. We never know from which direction unwanted changes in legislature will come from. We also have a tremendous opportunity to do the things that you’ve asked for as members. We all want more runs, rides, and parties. I’m asking for everyone to be more involved this year so that we can be a more powerful force for positive legislature, but also so that we can have the kind of camaraderie that you get from being around others who are as passionate about riding as you are. It doesn’t matter what kind of bike you ride, age, gender, race, or even if you don’t own a bike. Whether you’re into off the road, or highway cruising. Whatever you’re passionate about, any support you give no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated.
