2011 NCOM Convention

NCOM Albuquerque 2011

Upon arrival at the hotel, watching the local news, the weather man stated that the weekend was going to be filled with sunshine; he also stated that there will be a huge amount of motorcycles on the roads this weekend, so WATCH OUT FOR THEM. He also mentioned that May is Motorcycle Awareness Month, so Look Twice and Save a Life.

The convention was dedicated to “Sputnik” a dedicated freedom fighter who will always be remembered.

The Mayor Darwin White welcomed all bikers to his city. He was told that a different kind of convention was going to be held in his town, and they were right, it has been truly different for him so far.

I attended several of the seminars, you will find my notes I took from each seminar.

  • The Patriot Act has over 40,000 abuse cases reported on the right to privacy.
  • Colorado Representatives and Senators were told by Homeland Security that if they continue to mingle with “people” like us their political careers maybe on the line.
  • Colorado, don’t plan on pulling over in a rest area on your motorcycle and take a nap, because you will be run off.
  • Arkansas had a bill that your motorcycle has to have turn signals on all bikes, this did not pass, and can you really put turn signals on a bike that is antique?
  • Alabama snuck their gang bill in on another bill, the Abate got a call from the representative who proposed the bill, and said it wasn’t going anywhere, because their phone lines and emails were jammed for days (thanks to the call to action).
  • South Dakota, if you had a concealed carry permit, it was ok unless, you were on a motorcycle then it was illegal. That is now repealed.
  • New England is trying to get a law passed that if you hit someone on a motorcycle and you say “you didn’t see them” that would make you at fault and liable.
  • Alabama is trying to get a COC license plate available.
  • Alabama has a felony assault case pending right now against a person who made a left turn in front of a motorcycle police officer. We are hoping that they are able to stick to the felony, eventually people will be held accountable for hitting motorcyclist.
  • Tennessee has free medical clinics for bikers and their families.
  • Nevada, for the 1st time in 12 years the repeal of the helmet law has passed the committee and the house.
  • Arizona at the Tucson Fair, a biker was arrested for criminal trespassing because he was, “wearing his colors”. Next year there were about 300 patch wearers that went to the fair, umm, enough said?
  • Florida, there is a lawsuit against the state for not letting bikers in the state fair.
  • Georgia Motorcycle Only Check Points, are deemed unconstitutional, and a waste of tax payer money. There was an incident that on a rainy evening around 10pm, a motorcycle only ck point was set up. In the rain? 10pm? There were 15 cops, 7 cop cars, oh yeah, 3 motorcycles were checked in a 3 hour period, and they were biker ministers. I would also like to include that Georgia was one of the states that received part of that $350,000 federal money to educate police officers on how to deal with bikers. They received the first $80,000, money well spent I would like to add. On a personal note I would like to add that I do know of a citation that was given to a friend for not stopping at a Motorcycle Only Check Point. The only reason that he did not stop was because he did not find it in his best interest to go across 3 lanes of traffic traveling south on I-75. He was stopped 3 miles later and the only thing that the police officers could cite him for was failure to stop at the check point.
  • Georgia Motorcycle Only Check Point actually had helicopters at this particular ck point. No citations were given out; however they did take pictures of patch holders that go into a database.

New Mexico, gave NCOM a proclamation from the State Representatives making May 8th NCOM day.

I do have to add, that I was somewhat disappointed because I did not learn anything new. With that said I must truly add that, with literally growing up in the “biker world” I could not have asked for a better mentor than the Kentucky Motorcycle Association for educating me on my road to freedom.

Our mission is freedom, stay on our mission. The call to action has been proven to be successful, so have communication with others to be able to make the call to action work.

Thank you once again to KMA/KBA for giving me this opportunity to attend NCOM. Next year it will be held in Indianapolis IN. Hopefully I will not have to attend that seminar alone. I hope that a lot of us in the TRI-State area will attend.

With love and hope always,
