Northern District #4

District 4 News Update

Hello:

Recently we took some boys from the Northern Kentucky Boys home to a Florence Freedom game. Everyone had a great time. Thanks to everyone who helped buy the boys the tickets, and showed up to escourt them to the game. We also had dinner before the game with the boys, the Biker's Church grilled and the rest of us brought chips and dessert.

The weekend before that we had a picnic with Geoff Davis. The Victory office offered the picnic as an appreciation to all the volunteers who showed up to make phone calls, etc. Thanks to those who showed up to that. Geoff Davis thanked the KMA for the help we gave him in the past. On the 25th of August I was able to attend a town hall meeting in Lewis County.

On August 27th, a few of us from District #4 was in attendance at the Campbell County GOP picnic. Got to meet alot of Represenatives, and those running for office. A great family day. Had pony rides, a bounce house, Kona ice and door prizes. Corn hole and bingo.

We have some things coming up. Look forward to seeing you out at the upcoming events. Such as the State Party at lake Cumberland and the Dirt Drags in October in Gallatin County.

I will try to post more events here in the coming days. Ride safe!

WOW!

Wow! What a busy three weeks.

I want to thank everyone who made it out to the state party in Cumberland, in September. We had a great ride around the area and got to see some interesting sites. I want to thank those who took part in the bike games, and congratulations to the winners. The band was not able to make it, but we had karoke which some enjoyed doing early into the morning. This was our third straight year there, and has grown larger each year. I hope to see you there next year having a great time.

The following weekend I rode up to Michigan for the MRF Meeting of the Minds. this was a very informative convention where I learned alot about what is happening all over the country. One issue I am concerned about is SAE J2825. This is a noise issue that could become a National Issue. Please get to some local meetings to find out more about this Issue. Next year this convention will be in North Carolina, hope to be there with some of you.

Then for the third weekend, a event in Glenco the dirt drags put on by the local 3 districts of the KMA. This was a fun event that allowed us to reach out to people who really are not aware of what we do. It was fun watching the young kids race there Quads down the track, which the signing of HR2715 allows them to continue to be able to ride. The crowd was small and the weather was a little chilly, but I hope that this event will happen again.

So it has been a great, and busy 3 weeks. Hope to see you out there on the roads, and be safe.

Febuary 2012 events & news

Hi: On February 7th there is two meetings happening. One is in Washington D.C. as a house committee will be meeting on the issue of E15% gas. We need calls to our Representatives to urge support for HR3199 to include motorcycles in testing on the use of this type of fuel. Also support HR748 which will stop fuel of greater than 10% ethanol from being used till more testing has been done as to its effects.

The other is in Frankfort as a committee will be looking at HB328. We are inviting any interested to come down and help show support for this bill. If you can't make it please call and ask your Representatives to support and cosponsor this bill. To find out more about this bill read all the article tilted HB328 introduced please support.

On February 22nd we are having a meet your legislator day in Frankfort. All are welcome to come and show support. We will be meeting about 10AM in the lobby area just look for other bikers. The above mentioned article also gives more information.

In district 4 at our next meeting we will be having a guest speaker. Diane St. Onge who is running for the Kentucky State House 63rd District will be there to answer any questions and concerns. Please come to find out about her and many other issues affecting us bikers.

One last Note. I have already been hearing about accidents and some deaths of bikers this year. The weather this winter has been great to get out and do some riding. Please be careful and watch out for the other drivers. Because the other drivers are not use to looking for us being on our bikes at this time of year.

Legislative update

Hi:

The Legislative session ended today. They now wait for a week to see what the Governor signs or veto's. They will come back on April 12th for 1 day to try to override any veto's. This year was a long 60 day session. It got quite continuous at times. The main battles was over redistricting and the budget.

There was 1 issue the Kma/Kba backed. HB328 which would limit you to one renewal of you motorcycle permit. This was backed because about one third of the motorcycle accidents in the state was people on permits. People who have never taken a driving test or rider course. We feel and hope that better education will help reduce this percentage. This bill has passed both chambers and is now setting on the Governors desk.

Other interesting bills that are waiting for the Governor to sign are HB221 which would allow you to have the word Veteran on your driver licence. Also HB256 for a Veterans war Memorial. The Governor has already signed HB121 that make a POW/MIA flag flown on state property to be make in America.

HB165 Passed the house, but got stuck in the Senate Approprations committee, which would require you to have your headlights on if your wipers are on.

We was also opposed to a statewide smoking ban, which made it out of committee, but was never brought up for a vote.

There were others, just get to a local KMA meeting to find out more about what is happening that can affect our freedoms.

Hope to see you there!

Thoughts

Hello: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The weather has gotten cooler, There are still rides going on for Charities, such as toy rides and Christmas parties, I know some have rides planed for New years. Get to a meeting to find out more. Here in Northern Kentucky we have a ride Saturday December 10th to take gifts to the boys home. All welcome call a officer if you need information.

Also if you get a nice day to ride, and need a destination how about trying to find where our sponsors are and stop by to say thanks for their support. Let them know you are there for the kma.

We will be starting a membership drive for the districts January 1st. This is also when the New Legislative session begins. As of right now there are some Veteran issues I will watch. As about 90 bills have been prefiled, none are bike issues yet, but every year there is something. Please become a member or get on a phone tree, we need everyone, including sponsors. If you know a possible sponsor ask them or let someone know.

Also we are working with some other groups to help set up a free medical clenic for bikers. If you know of some medical supplies or someone who would be able to donate some time, contact a officer. Hope to let you know more as things come together and what this would mean for kma members.

Hope you have a joyous Holiday season, be safe, and see you on the roads.
